Rustica bread is a large whole grain, sourdough loaf produced by Seylou Bakery in NW DC. The Rustica loaf is hearty and filling. Great for any meal and a stand-alone meal. Try it dipped in olive oil, spread with ghee, or with specialty cheeses as a meal on its own.
Cut loaf in halves or quarters for freezer and later enjoyment. This loaf will last several days on the counter. Refresh with water and a hot oven if it starts to get dry.
SEYLOU offers a unique experience, starting with the farmers and leading to the seeds, which are milled on-site and baked into 100% whole grain breads in a wood-fired oven. These breads feature wheat and other grains from our very own Next Step Produce. Other PA organic farms supply additional wheat, einkorn, and necessary ingredients for the breads. These breads are made with a "levain" or natural sourdough started. They are then baked in Jonathan's wood fired oven. The breads and pastries are a real treat with the underlying, foundational commitment to local sourcing, ethical jobs, and environmental stewardship.
Gluten free options are available in both bread (bird bread) and pastries.
